Explore Earth's hydrologic cycle - a global recycling system for our planet's water to be reused over & over again - with this simple puzzle activity!
Grade Level: 2 - 8
Time: 5 - 15 minutes
Learning Standards: ESS2.C, ESS3.A, MP.4, SL1, SL3, SL4, RF4
This simple activity allows student to manipulate 4 arrow-shaped pieces into a circular puzzle that represents the "Water Cycle."
Each piece shows an illustrative image & terminology for stages of the hydrologic cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation & accumulation.
When placed in the proper order, the pieces fit together and arrows indicate the cyclical nature of Earth's water supply, that continues around & around and is reused over & over again by all life on the planet.
Physical Puzzle: Printer (ideally color), paper (sturdy cardstock preferred), scissors
Digital Version: Online access to Google Suite (Google classroom) - each student gets a copy
There are two ways to carry out this activity with students:
Physical Puzzle: Click the link below for a printable PDF version of the puzzle. Print as many color copies as you need and either cut the puzzle yourself, or have student do the cutting. Then the 4 puzzle pieces can be used to assemble the "Water Cycle" in the proper order.
Digital Version: Make a copy of the digital Google Slide version of the puzzle and then play with students online - a copy can be made for each individual student to carry out the activity on their own, or you can do it together as a class/group.
